Unfortunately, as reported earlier, the land where our beloved Addis School was located has been expropriated for a new infrastructure project. The area will be used for the expansion of a roadway and the construction of a new national government center. The expropriation, which has now reached its final stage, involved the entire area where the School was built.
The structures, which were developed over the years with significant economic and human effort, have been completely demolished. Sadly, the kitchen, the dormitory, the classrooms, the bathrooms, and the guard’s room no longer exist. Fortunately, thanks to the dedication of the school staff and the children’s mothers, we were able to save the furniture and educational materials, transferring them to an improvised storage area. However, all of this happened very quickly, without any prior notice.
This situation brings us great sadness, as we see the destruction of all the hard work done in recent years.
Despite the loss, there is a glimmer of hope: the old premises of the School, which were abandoned in the past, have been reopened. Today, our children can return to them, even though the old structure, designed for 80 children, is completely inadequate to accommodate more than 200.
Our teaching staff, led by Director Kaleb, is working miracles to cope with this difficulty, always putting the well-being and education of the children first. In the garden of the old school, temporary tents have been set up with makeshift classrooms, blackboards, and other materials to ensure that teaching can continue.
The School, though in precarious conditions, continues to thrive thanks to the courage and determination of everyone involved.
Now, as we await the completion of the expropriation works, our association is seeking a new plot of land to rebuild a School that can properly accommodate all of our children, providing them with a safe and stimulating space to grow.
We need your help.
Rebuilding the Addis School is an ambitious project that requires the commitment of everyone. Every contribution, big or small, will be essential in giving hope and a future to these children.
